Is Leading. What Young South Africa
Is Actually Wearing Right Now
The most exciting fashion conversation happening right now isn’t in Paris or Milan. It’s on the streets of Johannesburg. SA streetwear in 2026 is louder, prouder and more local than ever — built from the townships, from the kasi, from the community. And brands like Crooked Finger are proof that you don’t need a big budget to build something that hits.
“SA streetwear is not following global trends anymore. It is setting them. From Joburg streets to the world — the culture leads.”
It’s Not Just Clothes.
It’s Identity.
SA streetwear has always been more than fashion. It’s a language. A way of saying who you are, where you’re from, and what you believe — without saying a word. The brands that have built real followings in this space didn’t do it with big marketing budgets. They did it through community, through culture, and through the kind of authenticity that money genuinely cannot buy.
The energy on Joburg’s streets in 2026 is unmistakable. Bucket hats. Chunky chains. Oversized fits. Bold graphics. Local logos worn with more pride than any international designer label. The youth aren’t following global trends anymore — they’re setting their own. And brands across the world are watching SA to see what’s next.

Crooked Finger is founded by Kgotso Myakeni, born and raised in Benoni — and it’s one of the East Rand’s most exciting young clothing brands right now. Exactly the kind of story Say It Again Media exists to tell. Clean cuts, oversized silhouettes, bold graphic energy and a visual identity that is unmistakably SA. No shortcuts. No imitation. Just a brand building something real from the ground up.
We sat down with the team behind Crooked Finger on the Say It Again Podcast — and what came out of that conversation was a story about creativity, conviction and building something in a city that doesn’t always make it easy. Watch the full episode on YouTube.
The Looks Running
Joburg Right Now.
These aren’t predictions. This is what’s already on the streets — documented, verified, and worn by the people who actually set the culture.
Built From The Ground Up.
No Shortcuts.
Beyond Crooked Finger, these are the local brands that are defining SA streetwear right now. Each one was built by South Africans who understood their community before they understood their market.
GALXBOY — Founded in Mamelodi by Thatiso Dube. 18 years deep and just launched their first sneaker line designed with a UK footwear collaborator who has worked with Nike and Adidas. This is what local-to-global looks like.
Bathu — “Shoe” in Sotho. Born in Alexandra. The mesh-top sneaker became iconic by staying rooted in township culture while building a product that competes anywhere in the world.
DRIP Footwear — Started with sneakers carrying township influence and national pride. Expanded into apparel. DRIP understood that SA youth were done waiting for international brands to represent them.
BROKE — Being Rebellious Over Konforming to Expectations. Six cash-strapped friends who made an oath to create. The name is the philosophy. The clothes are the proof.
